Building innovation links between the UK & China

"Innovation is so important because we are now in a global economy, where the countries and the companies that develop the skills and creativity of the people will be the most successful….the country that drives innovation will win.” Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Innovation Edge Conference, London, May 2008.

“If you wish to remain or become New Champions, you must be innovative and take the lead in doing so. Otherwise, you won’t be successful.” Premier Wen Jiabao, Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum New Champions, Tianjin, September 2008.

"No matter how intensive the competition is, innovative products can find their position in the global market. China should play a leading role in innovation worldwide." Premier Wen Jiabao, Guangzhou, April 2009.

  • Organised by the China-Britain Business Council (CBBC) and with the support of the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills Global Partnership Programme, the ‘China Tomorrow’ initiative will help more UK & Chinese organisations to work together on a wide range of innovation & technology projects and to commercialise the outputs.

  • China Tomorrow will promote opportunities for technology transfer and joint technology development between UK and Chinese enterprises and research organisations at a national and regional level by:

            - Raising interest.
            - Increasing awareness on how to collaborate successfully on technology development / technology transfer and innovation – for example, by             showcasing existing collaborations.
            - Increasing the capabilities of UK companies to work jointly with Chinese partners.

  • The initiative was formally announced by Prime Minister Gordon Brown at the UK-China Business Summit with China’s Premier, Wen Jiabao, in London on 2nd February 2009.

  • The aim of the initiative is to develop & grow profitable, sustainable business for the economic benefit of both countries – something that is of increasing importance in the current economic climate.

  • As the UK & China look for their industries to move up the value chain, China Tomorrow will help provide the opportunity for increased engagement and cooperation at an important time for both countries.
